Steven Walvick Hazzan

Rabbi/Hazzan Steven Walvick

Rabbi/Hazzan Steven Walvick graduated from the Academy for Jewish Religion in April, 2024 and was installed as our ENJC rabbi shortly thereafter. He started off his first career as a web developer in the heady days of the 90’s after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Yale University. After a few years, and one particular freelance gig where he went a week working from his apartment with no human contact (can you IMAGINE? A whole week? Ah yes, those pre-Covid beforetimes!), he decided to switch gears to focus on his greatest loves:  music, Judaism, and teaching. Four years later, armed with Investiture in Hazzanut and a Masters of Sacred Music from the Jewish Theological Seminary, he started his second career as a Hazzan in both Florida and New Jersey, before returning to his Long Island roots here at the East Northport Jewish Center. Blessed with working with Rabbi Ian Silverman for four years, he decided to take on the challenging mantle of sole clergy upon Rabbi Silverman’s retirement, and thus embarked on his third career as a Rabbi. He is blessed with a loving supportive family, especially his wife Rabbi Deborah Miller, and their daughter Libby, and looks forward to a long healthy relationship with the East Northport Jewish Center.
